Dear No More Deaths volunteers and supporters,

As you know, No More Deaths is mobilizing to repeal the recent Arizona “Papers Please” law (S.B. 1070) and mitigate the impacts of the increased criminalization of migrants and people of color which it sanctions. We need your help to raise awareness, build resistance to similar policies in your community, and help No More Deaths continue to fund our important work on the frontlines.

During the National Weekend for Prayer and Action, July 29–August 1, we ask that you host a community event where you live on S.B. 1070 in Arizona and the anti-immigrant policies currently at play in communities across the country.

In the coming week, we will send you a toolkit with ideas and resources for hosting an informative fundraising event for No More Deaths and a local Immigrant Rights organization where you live. Here are just a few ideas that we will share in further detail in the toolkit:

• Host a film showing of 9500 Liberty, an impressive film that follows events in Prince William County, Virginia, after elected officials adopted a law in 2007 requiring police officers to question anyone they have “probable cause” to suspect is an undocumented immigrant. The filmmakers show how destructive the policy was for the community. (DON’T WAIT! • Partner with a local Immigrant Rights organization to benefit from the event and share the current political situation where you live.
• Have an Arizona-based No More Deaths volunteer Skype-in to your event with an “on-the-ground” report from Arizona, and answer questions from the audience (any day but July 29—sorry, we’ll be on the streets.)
• Show a pre-recorded, web-based video from No More Deaths members on the climate in Arizona.
• Host a musical event, dance party, art auction, dinner, or any other creative endeavor that uses your artistic talents to support the struggle!
