New Report Blames Migrant Deaths on Immigration Policy Print E-mail
Monday, 10 May 2010 15:01
New research released this month by the National Foundation for American Policy, an establishment think tank based in Arlington, VA, confirms that migrant deaths borderwide have been on the rise since 1998, and that the lethality of border crossing has been rising even more steeply. (For the same pattern at the level of the Border Patrol Tucson Sector, see Deaths on AZ Border since Oct. 1.)

It then traces these shameful trends to their sources—first and foremost, militarized border enforcement, coupled with a failure to provide legal avenues for migration.

A companion report specifically blasts the effects on families and calls for reforms in family-based immigration.

The reseach was funded by the Carnegie Corporation of New York.
